In early January, a Popeye’s Chicken customer noticed a cat while she was waiting in the drive-thru. When she got out of her car to explore it, she found half a dozen 4-or-5-month-old kittens staring back at her! As any of us would, she posted it on Facebook, and we were able to connect and work together to find their hiding spot to trap them. She even helped during the “stake out” the first few nights. In that first week, we were able to trap four females.
During one of these sessions, a local man who had been feeding this colony over the past three months reached out. With his help, we learned that there were still three more cats left to trap. With our new friend’s intel, we were able to trap one more kitten, but the two older orange tabbies are wise to us. He asked how we pay for surgeries and vaccinations, and after we told him through donations, he surprised us with a very nice contribution. Thank you, Friend!
The trappers noticed that three of the kittens were able to be touched through the bars of the traps, which means that they are likely to be well received as pets! These three kittens are now with a foster for further socialization. One of these kittens requires some medical care, but there are high hopes that they will all soon be available for adoption in a few weeks.
We aren’t giving up on the final two orange kitties, so we’ve become Popeye’s Chicken regulars!
This is great! Love this happy tail and love the amazing efforts of your volunteers who make it all happen.
