Spring means new life, new plants coming up, baby birds being born, and, unfortunately, more homeless kittens (puppies, too) being born on our streets and under our sheds and houses.

Many of these kittens will never make it to adulthood. Many will become prey for wildlife or hungry coyotes, some will get killed by cars or the cruelty of humans, some will just get sick from exposure and disease. Being kittens with undeveloped immune systems, they cannot recover, and they die.
A few “lucky” ones will be “rescued” by well-intended people, and a few will eventually get adopted into real homes. For those few “lucky” kittens to survive and thrive, Bastrop County Animal Shelter needs lots and lots of foster volunteers.
The real solution to the kitten and cat overpopulation problem is for all pet owners to be responsible and spay and neuter their pets. If cost is a concern, we have a low-cost clinic here in Bastrop. Save an Angel is your resource, and you can make an appointment online.
But don’t stop there, because, if you are feeding or even just noticing that there are any stray or feral cats in your neighborhood, then you can help your community and the cats by helping Bastrop C.A.T.S. to get them humanely trapped, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and returned.
Bastrop C.A.T.S. has a very successful Trap-Neuter-Return program. In our eleventh year of service to the Bastrop county community, we have now fixed nearly 8,000 cats! This in turn is reducing the numbers of homeless kittens being born on our streets and pouring into the local shelter every year during Kitten Season, every March through November.
You can help make a difference right in your neighborhood! Bastrop C.A.T.S. educates, loans traps, and schedules appointments for TNR. We always need community trappers, transport drivers, and volunteers to foster injured or sick kittens that we find.
If you have just a few hours a week to help, please contact us at TNR@BastropCats.org.
We can always use community cat food donations, too. See our Amazon Wish List.
Together, let’s increase our impact and help even more cats and kittens than we did in 2024!
