Last month, I helped Bastrop Shelter at a cat adoption event at Petco where seven kittens were adopted into new homes! One of those kittens is an unusual kitty, with an unusual name and an unusual adoption story.
Donkey is a male calico with some patches of gray tabby and one tiny patch of orange on his ear. That Saturday, he was one of about 20 kittens looking for their furever. Male calicoes are extremely rare: maybe one in 100 kittens are born with the extra X chromosome to get the tri-color combination of red, black, and white.
When a family walked by the cats’ crate with their recently adopted pitbull-mix dog, dog and kitten spied each other, and little heart emojis went floating into the air above their heads. They both began playing together and licking each other through the crate wires. It was love at first sight!
