Late one night in August, a Good Samaritan found a tiny black and white kitten in a dewberry patch on the side of the highway. The kitten appeared to have trouble walking, and so “Sam” reached out to us.
Bastrop C.A.T.S. was able to take the newly named kitten, “Drewberry,” into the vet where x-rays were completed, which showed a hip with a “crush” injury, likely from being thrown from a car.
Momma cats often hide their kittens inside car tires, and this could have been the case for Drew. He was only about 6 weeks old at the time, and the vet recommended, with the injury as it was, to kennel-rest the kitten and see if the growth plates would grow back into place normally.
It was a long shot, but we try to avoid amputation when we can. Unfortunately his tail was also injured in his ordeal, and he did have to have the last inch of his tail amputated.
For eight weeks, Drew lived with a loving foster and socialized to a happy healthy, friendly kitten.
At follow-up x-rays, he was cleared 100%! It was miraculous!
Shortly after his release from the vet, Drew was happily adopted to his new furrever home.
